Stakeholder engagement and understanding end-user experience in residential asset management: Case Study - New Zealand Defence Force Housing

Biography

Katie is a residential property expert, with a focus on asset management. With a career that started as a RICS chartered surveyor, she has spent the majority of the last 20 years managing property portfolios initially as a client herself, then as an advisor to asset owners in UK and NZ, in both public and private sectors. Katie’s introduction to the world of work began with aristocratic property estates in London’s Mayfair and Belgravia, a far cry from Katie’s hometown in working class Essex, UK. In 2011, Katie moved to NZ and found an ideal opportunity to build upon this experience of residential portfolio management with Kainga Ora (then Housing New Zealand), NZ’s state housing provider. Katie began consulting with WSP in Auckland in their property advisory team and is currently a manager with the Infrastructure Advisory team at KPMG NZ based in Auckland. Having held various roles across the asset lifecycle in property acquisition, development, operational and strategic planning and disposal, Katie approaches asset management advisory from a practitioner’s perspective. Katie also performs asset management maturity assessments, current state assessments and internal reviews for clients operating in broader asset classes including local government, private commercial property, education amd utilities and is regularly engaged as an asset management SME to support teams across KPMG with a wide range of projects for clients in the infrastructure sector. Today, Katie is active in NZ’s community housing provider (CHP) sector, authoring strategic asset management plans for new CHPs as they seek provider registration and contributing to housing thought leadership pieces in this area.
